ABSTRACT:
This document describes the contribution of the S-TEN project to standardization within ISO and W3C.

The contribution has been in three areas - reference data for observations and measurements within ISO 15926, the Semantic STEP proposal for a new version of ISO 10303, and the formation of the Product Modelling XG within W3C.

The difficulties that have to be overcome in order to achieve a standard in each of these areas are assessed.
